AI influencers on TikTok Shop: what is known in 2026
8 min read
TikTok Shop allows AI-generated video as long as it is accurate and disclosed, and that holds for an AI influencer as for any other video. What nobody can show with a verifiable number is whether such accounts sell more or less than real creators. Below are TikTok's own rules, what the press reported, and what is still unknown.
What does TikTok say about AI content on TikTok Shop?
TikTok Shop's US Seller Center allows AI content with conditions. The page "AI-Generated Content Restrictions and Requirements" applies to the United States and carries the date 09/02/2026, month first, so September 2 (TikTok Shop US). In short:
| Topic | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Is AI allowed? | Yes. Content "will not be restricted or penalized solely for using AI" if it follows the Community Guidelines and TikTok Shop policies. |
| Disclosure | Creators must disclose content that is "fully generated or significantly edited using AI", most of all when the video includes "synthetic faces, voices, digital humans, or highly realistic virtual figures". Use on-screen text, a watermark, a sticker, a note in the description or the "AI-generated content" toggle at posting, which shows "Disclosed by creator as AI-generated". TikTok can also apply its own "AI-generated" label, and creators cannot remove it. Labeling content as AI when it is not, or skipping the label when AI plays a significant role, is a violation. |
| The product | AI must not alter a product's size, color, material, quantity, bundle contents, features, compatibility, safety attributes or performance, or show results the real item cannot deliver. |
| Other people | No use of someone else's likeness, voice, name or trademarks without permission, and no fake professionals, such as doctors or professors, endorsing health products. |
| Penalties | For a video: less distribution, removed product links or shopping cart, lost Creator Health Rating points. For repeat violations: posting limits, disabled commission withdrawals, suspension or a ban. AI used for fraud: a permanent ban. |
TikTok's Community Guidelines, effective September 24, 2026, require a label on AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking people or scenes, and say a label is not needed for artistic styles such as anime (TikTok). The TikTok Shop page makes no such exception and counts cartoon and animated styles inside its definition of AI-generated content. Neither page says which one prevails when they differ. A seller who would rather not risk it can label every video.
Each country has its own page. The UK one, dated August 28, 2026, is not the US rule, but it shows what TikTok asks in another market (TikTok Shop UK). It asks creators not to use AI to mass-produce identical or near-identical videos, for example several promotional videos that reuse the same script, visuals or structure with minimal changes. It lists misspelled logos or distorted brand imagery as an intellectual-property risk. Among its best practices, it says AI-generated fictional characters, such as movie or cartoon characters, are allowed if clearly labeled, and it advises avoiding digital avatars that resemble real humans, such as other creators and celebrities.
What has the press reported?
Part of it is American trade press, and some of it would not open for us. Where we read only another outlet's summary, the table says which. It shows what each source claims and what we could read.
| Source read and date | What it says | What we could read |
|---|---|---|
| Ypulse, July 22, 2026, summarizing Business Insider | According to Ypulse, AI posts have become a talking point inside the TikTok Shop team. Some brands use AI to recreate successful influencer posts, and some post hundreds of product videos a month without paying creators or sending samples. | The Ypulse piece, with no count of accounts or sales. The Business Insider article would not open. |
| Affiverse, July 17, 2026, summarizing The Wall Street Journal | According to Affiverse, the Journal reported that AI videos are spreading across TikTok Shop and that SharkNinja told the affiliates in its program that AI-generated content is not allowed and that commissions could be removed. | Only Affiverse's summary. The Journal's article would not open. |
| InfoMoney, February 1, 2026 | An opinion column by the data director of Timelens about a study by his own company that has not been published: of 15,326 TikTok Shop sales links, July 2024 to January 2025, AI profiles would be 5.72% of sales offers, with a conversion of 3.76% against 11.53% for influencers. | The whole column, in Portuguese. The full study "will be out soon", and AI profiles were identified by patterns such as abnormal growth, with no validation described. |
| Olhar Digital, May 6, 2024, citing The Information | According to Olhar Digital, which cites The Information, TikTok planned AI avatars to sell on TikTok Shop, and early tests drew weaker sales than human creators. | Olhar Digital's whole article, in Portuguese. The Information's report would not open. It is two years old, and we could not confirm that the feature launched. |
What does nobody know?
- How much of TikTok Shop's sales come from AI videos. No source we read gives a count.
- Whether an AI influencer sells more or less than a real creator. The two numbers we found have weak footing, and neither describes a recurring character labeled as AI. What is known about what AI profiles earn is in how to make money with an AI influencer.
- How strictly TikTok enforces the label on TikTok Shop. On July 10, 2026, TikTok said it had labeled more than 3 billion videos as AI-generated and would test better detection of AI spam accounts. The post does not mention TikTok Shop (TikTok).
- How each brand treats an affiliate who uses AI. According to Affiverse, which summarizes the Journal, SharkNinja forbids it, and Rare Beauty told the Journal it had no connection to videos showing an artificial version of a creator using its cosmetics (Affiverse, July 27, 2026).
Who can be a creator on TikTok Shop?
The eligibility pages we read say nothing about AI or virtual characters: they cover the person who applies. The content pages mention digital humans and highly realistic virtual figures as something to disclose, and the UK page adds that AI-generated fictional characters are allowed if clearly labeled. In the US, the creator eligibility page, dated 09/25/2026, lists affiliate, marketing and official shop creators. All must be 18 or older, be based in the United States and follow TikTok's policies. All except official shop creators must pass identity verification, and affiliates need at least 1,000 followers (TikTok Shop US). A person or company stands behind any AI influencer, and it is that person or company who can lose the permission.
What can a seller do today with one recurring influencer?
Nothing on the pages we read closes this road: a recurring character, labeled as AI, that shows the real product and promises nothing the product does not do. On Duble AI that is the AI UGC video. You send one to four photos of the product, which become an object (2 credits, once), and your influencer appears holding it in a trend or in a video of your own. A 10-second video at Standard quality costs 20 credits, from $3.33.
- Label it. Switch on the "AI-generated content" toggle when you post, and say in the video or the description that it is AI. Duble AI reminds you on the finished video's page, and each network has its own label, as how to mark AI content shows.
- Show the real product. The object is drawn from your photos, and small label print may not come out exact. The UK page counts distorted logos as a risk and lists logos and on-pack text that stay sharp, legible and undistorted among the marks of good AI-generated content. Check the object's drawing before you generate, and if a piece of text has to be right, cut to a real photo of the product in your own editor.
- Do not invent use. The character has never used the product. In the US, the FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials, announced August 14, 2024, addresses reviews and testimonials that misrepresent that they are by someone who does not exist, such as AI-generated fake reviews, or who had no actual experience with the product (FTC). Write from the product page, not from imagined experience.
- Vary the videos. The UK page bars mass-producing with AI promotional videos that reuse the same script, visuals or structure with minimal changes. Change the trend, the angle on the product and the text from one video to the next.
- Use only what is yours. The influencer should be invented, or you. Someone else's likeness, voice or name without permission is prohibited by TikTok Shop and by the Duble AI Terms, and the product should be yours or have the brand owner's permission. An affiliate for a brand should read its affiliate rules too. See whether an AI influencer is legal.
Nothing here is a promise of sales. Duble AI's Terms say it promises no reach, followers or income, and this is not legal advice. To start, create your influencer.
Frequently asked questions
- Does TikTok Shop allow AI-generated videos?
- Yes, with conditions. TikTok Shop's US Seller Center says AI content is allowed if it is transparent and accurate, and that it is not restricted solely for using AI. Fully AI-generated or significantly AI-edited content must be disclosed, and misleading product depictions are prohibited.
- How do I label a TikTok Shop video as AI-generated?
- Switch on the AI-generated content toggle when you post, which adds a label reading Disclosed by creator as AI-generated. You can also say it on screen, with a watermark or sticker, or in the description. Labeling non-AI content as AI, or skipping the label when AI plays a significant role, is a violation.
- Do AI influencers sell more than human creators on TikTok Shop?
- Nobody can say, and no source we read shows it in a verifiable way. What exists is a Brazilian opinion column by a company's data director about a study the company had not yet published, and a 2024 report from Olhar Digital, citing The Information, that early tests of TikTok's AI avatars drew weaker sales than human creators.
- Can an AI character be a TikTok Shop creator?
- TikTok Shop's eligibility pages say nothing about AI or virtual characters: they cover the person who applies. In the US a creator must be 18 or older and based in the US, affiliates need 1,000 followers, and affiliate and marketing creators pass identity verification. A person always stands behind the character, and can lose the permission.
- What does TikTok Shop ban in AI product videos?
- Changing a product's size, color, material, quantity or features, showing results it cannot deliver, using another person's likeness, voice or name without permission, and inventing doctors or professors to endorse health products. Penalties run from reduced distribution and removed product links to suspension or a ban.
- Can I use one recurring AI character holding my product?
- Nothing on the pages we read forbids it, as long as the product matches what the customer receives, the video is labeled as AI, and the character does not claim to have used the product. On Duble AI the product is drawn from your photos, and small label print may not come out exact, so check before posting.
